Job Description :
The Senior Financial Analyst provides a supporting role to the Bureau Chiefs and department heads on all aspects of financial reporting and planning as well as operational support to editorial partners. Working within an often very busy environment, the position offers the opportunity to work in a variety of finance related disciplines with the aim of providing business partners with the information that they require to run the business efficiently and production teams with the backing they need to deliver the news.

  • Financial Reporting / Planning

  • Assist in quarterly close process: reclassifications, accrual preparations, in-depth variance analysis, commentary, and financial reporting for presentation to business partners

  • Assist with preparation of long range plans, annual budgets, and forecasts: pace and analyze expense trends, build detailed budgets, estimate future risks and opportunities, input data into Cognos/SAP and other tools, and present to management

  • Provision of financial analyses to business partners enabling editorial/operations management to implement cost saving recommendations, including trends, modelling, scenario planning and quarterly results

  • Consolidate and analyze weekly news coverage costs and report estimates to Leaders

  • Collaborate with production team to create budgets and strategize special projects and/or major trips

  • Business Planning & Decision Support

  • Develop and enhance reporting tools and dashboards to analyze spending, identify areas for cost efficiencies, proactively lead process changes, and track improvements

  • Coordinate with production teams to track, monitor and analyze cost for specific stories

  • Monitor utilization of freelance contractors

  • Partner with other News Finance teams to improve processes across the finance team

  • Additional ad hoc projects across News portfolio might include providing support for new strategic initiatives, programming changes, and other business processes


Required Qualifications :
 Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics

  • Advanced Excel skills and modeling (macros and spreadsheet experience)

  • Candidate must be detail-oriented, deliverable-focused, and well-organized

  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and build relationships with various business partners across all levels of management

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and the flexibility to handle multiple priorities

  • Be a self-starter who readily provides solutions to problems and requires minimal supervision on day-to-day tasks and analyses


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience with close/forecasting/consolidations/data analysis/financial modeling

  • Prior media/television/broadcast industry experience

  • SAP / Cognos / TM1 experience a plus



Additional Information:











  • This role is based in NY with 4 days-a-week in the office.

  • Interviews will be with a Sr. Manager and an Analyst.

  • This is very much a finance role with forecasting and budget responsibilities (FP&A).

  • Strong Excel skills required.
